roundtable event 9/23/23

The VOJ & OUTREACH group of Voices of JOE will be holding a roundtable event which is scheduled for September 23, 2023, in Lackawanna County. We have received multiple concerns about the contaminated mail situation in the Federal Prisons across the country.

Therefore, this issue will be in the forefront of this discussion. This will be the second time we are gathering to deal with this problem. Voices of Joe had partnered with PSCOA, the Pennsylvania State Corrections Officers Association, in the past to work with Federal Legislators to have them implement a policy similar to that being used in the Pa. Prisons to deal with contaminated mail. Congressman Matt Cartwright took this information, visited USP Canaan, which resulted in a pilot project being implemented.

Unfortunately, that project was never refunded, and the problem as resurfaced. We will be pushing for funding and a policy similar to that pilot project to be put in place for address this issue.
